COMBAT
Field Battles
-
Each Dur Demarion event features a unique theme that shapes the objectives and atmosphere of the field battles. These themes add an extra layer of fun and creativity, influencing everything from the scenario goals to the narrative framing of each fight. While the combat remains fully competitive, the themed objectives bring an immersive, playful energy to the battlefield that keeps every round fresh and memorable. If you have ideas for a theme, feel free to share them with us.
Our battles are objective-based scenarios, each one designed to test teamwork, endurance, field awareness, and strategic thinking. Scenarios might involve capturing zones, escorting objectives, controlling resources, or pushing across the battlefield as a unified team. Every scenario is played in multiple rounds, with each round lasting roughly 30 minutes, creating long, immersive engagements that feel closer to battlefield simulations than quick skirmishes.
To keep the action continuous, our field fights use resurrection rules, allowing fighters to return to the game after being eliminated. This means the battle never stops moving and fighters stay active and engaged throughout the entire scenario. For those who prefer to focus purely on combat rather than objectives, there is always space within the scenario that requires lots of fighting opponents head-on.
The battlefield itself is shaped to create depth and tactical opportunities. The large, flat open field is enhanced with rope-defined boundaries, restricted zones, and air-up barriers similar to those used in paintball fields. Barriers add terrain, line-of-sight breaks, and defensible positions. They can’t be attacked or jumped over, but they can be fired over, giving archers strategic cover options while forcing melee fighters to think creatively about positioning.
Newcomers are fully welcomed into these battles. They are encouraged to pair with experienced fighters, follow their lead, and learn the rhythm and flow of the field at their own pace. For those who aren’t ready for the full melee, there is always space beside the field for sparring, drills, and smaller fights, allowing people to participate at whatever intensity feels right.
Tournaments
-
To keep the competition fair, we limit the types of equipment fighters can use. This creates divisions similar to weight classes in traditional combat sports, allowing the best in each category to rise to the top based purely on technique, timing, and skill.
Fighters face off within a structured bracket and advance as they win, battling until only one champion remains. Multiple referees ensure fair calls, clean combat, and a safe environment for everyone involved.
Even if you don’t plan to fight, tournaments are a spectacle worth seeing. The tension, cheers, and dramatic final matches create unforgettable moments. Champions earn a victory flag, which we call belt flags, that they can proudly wear on their belt as a trophy of their achievement.
ACTIVITIES
-
Throughout the weekend, you’ll find a wide variety of classes and workshops. These may include fighting instruction, crafting demonstrations, dance lessons, stretching or warm-up sessions, and other hands-on opportunities to learn something new. Whether you’re looking to improve your technique, broaden your skills, or simply try something fun, there’s always something worth joining.
We also host games and activities geared toward both kids and adults, lighthearted contests, creative challenges, or playful group games that anyone can enjoy. Beyond organized programming, you’ll often find camps inviting others to join them for food, drinks, campfire conversation, or laid-back social time. These moments of connection are a big part of what makes our events special.
Anyone in the community is welcome to propose and run an activity. If you’d like to host a class, workshop, or event, you can apply to be added to the official schedule here.

About Our Event Location: Montgomery Bell State Park
Montgomery Bell State Park is where we host all of our multi-day events, which is located in Burns, Tennessee. This is a beautiful 3,782-acre woodland resort park known for its wonderful forests and lakes. It offers the perfect balance of natural atmosphere and practical amenities, making it an ideal setting for our multi-day events.
-
Our events are based out of the park’s Rustic Group Camp One, a collection of historic cabins centered around a communal dining space known as the Feast Hall.
Cabin types include:
2-bed cabins: perfect for small groups
4-bed cabins: ideal for families or friends rooming together
10-Person cabins: no beds, but large open floors with space for up to 10 people using personal sleeping setups as well as a fireplace
These buildings are older, rustic stone and wood, and very much part of the park’s historic atmosphere.
-
The Group Camp includes onsite bathrooms and showers, available to all attendees.
These facilities are:locate throughout the event
shared, multi-stall spaces (common in group camping facilities)
older but reliably maintained
They provide everything needed for a multi-day stay: just bring your usual toiletries, towel, and sandals if preferred.
-
A large portion of our community chooses to tent camp, and the Group Camp provides a flexible, open environment where tents can be set up.
Here’s what to know:
You may pitch your tent anywhere within the Group Camp grounds, as long as it is not blocking walkways, cabins, or activity areas.
There are flat, shaded spots ideal for tent clusters, as well as open clearings for larger groups.
The event site map located below highlights some of the best tenting spots.
This option is the most popular among attendees due to its flexibility and easy access to all event activities.
-
If you prefer a more comfortable or private stay, Montgomery Bell also offers modern premium cabins and a full-service lodge with hotel rooms, a restaurant, and resort-style amenities. These accommodations are situated within the park but outside the designated Group Camp area, making them an ideal choice for attendees seeking convenience, quiet, and contemporary comforts.

Yes, pets are welcome, but there are a few important rules. All animals must have up-to-date rabies vaccinations. Bring proof, like vet records or tags, with you to the event. Pets must be on a leash at all times with no exceptions. You are fully responsible for your pet's behavior. The event waiver does not cover incidents involving your pet. Please clean up after them and dispose of any waste properly.
-
If you're staying in a cabin, you’ll need to bring a broom and sweep both the cabin and the porch before you leave. Swiffer mops and pads will be provided, and you're expected to mop your cabin as well. All windows need to be re-latched from both the inside and outside. Trash should be bagged and left by the road. Mattresses must be propped up against the bunks.
If you're in a 10-man cabin with a fireplace and you use it, make sure to clean out the ashes. Bring a shovel and a metal bucket for that. Leave all lights turned on when you depart. Before leaving, you'll do a walk-through with an event coordinator to make sure everything is in order.

If you'd like to arrive before the official 4:00 PM check-in time, you can pay for VIP Early Admission at the gate. It's an additional $10 for each hour early. For example, if you arrive at 2:00 PM, that's two hours early, so you'll pay $20 for VIP access plus $40 for regular admission, for a total of $60. This does not apply to vendors.

Yes. Smoking is not allowed inside any structures, including cabins, the feast hall, and pavilions. Please dispose of cigarette butts in proper containers. Any left on the ground have to be cleaned up by volunteers after the event, and that’s gross.
-
The cabins at Montgomery Bell are historic, and so is the wiring. The electrical system can't handle high-demand appliances running at the same time. For example, using a hair dryer and a space heater together will likely blow a fuse. Please plan accordingly and be mindful of what you're plugging in.
-
The cabins are located in the woods, so it's normal to encounter bugs, bats, or small animals. If you find an animal inside your cabin, please notify an event coordinator so a park ranger can safely handle it. Bats in the rafters of porch areas are common and will not be removed.
If you're sensitive to bugs, consider bringing a bug bomb. Use it before moving your items inside, and follow all safety instructions. The most common bugs are wolf spiders, which are not poisonous.
Also, remember—you're in Tennessee. We strongly recommend using tick repellent both on and off the field.
-
If you arrive when Troll is closed, go ahead and get setup. Come back to Troll once it is opened and bring your vehicle. All vehicles are marked as they enter, so it’s clear who has paid.
-
No. Outside firewood is not allowed in Tennessee state parks due to the risk of invasive pests. You are welcome to gather deadwood from the surrounding forest for your fires. There's plenty available.
Any unused wood at the end of the event must be returned to nature by scattering it back into the woods. Do not stack wood against cabins, as this creates a risk of termites and other pests.
-
Yes, fires are allowed, but only in designated fire pits. You may also use an above-ground fire pit, but be aware that Montgomery Bell fines $100 for each bit of scorched earth, and that fine will be transferred directly to you. To avoid this, move your fire pit around as needed.
Digging new fire pits is not allowed under any circumstances.
